Sleeping arrangements as a child

As early as 70 or 80 years ago, there were still people living in single-room houses in Armadale.

The single room was the bedroom, kitchen and living room combined and the residents had to adapt.

Many slept in 'set-in' beds, which were enclosed by three walls and a curtain, to keep out the cold in the days before central heating.
